I am currently working on a word study for the word FREE. I hadn’t ever done word studies before until these past few months when a mentor friend shared with me how impacting they can be. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a regular “Bible study”, you know the kind where you buy a book, read it, read the scriptures it tells you to, answer questions, etc. Those types of studies are great and I have learned a lot through them over the years. In fact I am doing 2 right now in addition to my word study. #gettinspirituallyfull
But what I’ve learned recently is that those types of studies tend to feed my “perfectionism” problem which I am trying to free myself from. I absolutely have to stop trying to be perfect, for me it’s simply unhealthy. I want to continue on the path I am walking now, just being ME, flaws and all, but enJOYing life. You see for me perfectionism=slavery & sin, but freedom=JOY.
What does this have to do with grace you ask? While digging in to my word study I came across some verses that helped me to believe that GRACE=FREEDOM=JOY.
I am drawn to this passage in Job 11:13-20 (msg) titled “Reach out to God” specifically these verses:
“Still, if you set your heart on God and reach out to him, If you scrub your hands of sin and refuse to entertain evil in your home, You’ll be able to face the world unashamed and keep a firm grip on life, guiltless and fearless. You’ll forget your troubles; they’ll be like old, faded photographs. Your world will be washed in sunshine, every shadow dispersed by dayspring. Full of hope, you’ll relax, confident again; you’ll look around, sit back, and take it easy.”
Grace allows me to face the world unashamed and fearless, forgetting my troubles. Grace fills my life with sunshine so I can relax, sit back and take it easy. Sounds pretty freeing to me!
I also found this in Romans 5:20-21 (msg)
“When its sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life, a life that goes on and on and on, world without end.” AMEN!!
Seems simple enough for my little brain, if I am longing for freedom and joy then what I need to give and receive is GRACE because GRACE WINS HANDS DOWN!
