PEACE in the midst of a mess!

So we are officially on week 2 of school and the schedule is filling up. In an effort to be ALL-IN for my kids a few adjustments have to be made to make life run smoothly.

First, I have challenged (or tortured) my kids to eliminate TV Monday-Saturday, with some exceptions of course. I feel bad because we don’t have things like a Wii or Gameboys or Ipads, because A. we can’t afford them and B. we can’t handle them. You see I struggle with attitude and a short temper and in my effort to overcome these I have seen the results of several years of my blowing up and poor attitude in the actions of my children. So we’ve evaluated what the main culprits are to our triggers and unfortunately for my family…its electronics! I’m afraid before long we will be like the Amish and have NONE! But for now, we are limiting, so TV time must be reduced. Yesterday was day #1 and I must say…it might have been an amazing day. The kids played outside, did chores, read books and SLEPT WELL….and I actually got something accomplished myself! Could this happen every day?? Let’s hope!

Second, with a busy schedule means that we are involved in a lot of things, some of which cause “positive” stress to our family and some unfortunately cause “negative” stress. While we have tried to eliminate many of the ones that create negativity, we can’t eliminate all of them. So we are again challenged, this time in our ability to handle these situations. While I am very grateful for the amazing friend I called last night and vented too, who listened with cared…I can’t always do that. I have to find a way to get to peace in the midst of the stress. Once again, God was listening when I lifted my prayer and asked for help. He led me to this this morning….

“TRUST me in the midst of a messy day…..When you start to feel stressed, detach yourself from the disturbances (TV?) around you. Instead of desperately striving to maintain order and control in your little world, relax and remember that circumstances cannot touch My PEACE. The Peace I give is sufficient for you.” Taken from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

“Peace I leave you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world give. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

By making a small change in the flow of our day, we will see HIS PEACE. By choosing PEACE in the midst of a stressful season, we will be able to experience JOY in the everyday.

About believingjoy

Who am I? That's a good question! I am Jen...a blemished woman who enjoys a tidbit of tidyness mixed with dash of craziness to create a life that is simply mine! I adore my 4 children and their daddy. I love little bits of wild like tattoos and things that make us unique. I like to mix vintage with new and strive for progress over perfection! I believe that not a single person on this planet is perfect and that's okay, it's what makes us who we are. My desire is to find joy is all circumstances with a smile and a choice to believe.
