Is it just me or are the days, months, years getting shorter?
Those big moments like graduating high school, getting married, having babies, first holidays, birthdays, all of it were just moments ago…weren’t they?
How did I get to this point, today so…quickly? As I reflect back on 2015 I keep thinking, it was a busy year, but a good one. I will admit around December 23rd, I was exhausted, ready for rest. The year was full. We celebrated, we vacationed, we relaxed, we hustled, we cheered, we fought, we laughed, we cried, we accomplished goals. We did a lot, not all of it well, but we did all of it together! We survived and we feel blessed. Blessed to get a chance to do it all again today, tomorrow and each day the Lord allows us to live ahead.
My words for 2015 were Gratitude, Glory, Grace. I cannot deny that I was not 100% successful in all of those areas, but I tried. Thank goodness for Grace!
As I search for a word for 2016, it will come to no surprise that I am pulling back. When I chose my words for 2015 I was ambitious. A good friend suggested narrowing it to one word…maybe a bit more attainable. But as I choose a word I am struggling to find the perfect one. The one that encompasses all that I want to accomplish this year.
As I ponder the year to come I am already overwhelmed by the calendar for the first half of the year. My list of goals for 2016 is as long as ever and includes things like being more diligent with our finances, staying strong in my faith walk, trusting God more, finishing school, continuing my fitness and healthy living momentum, being a more graceful, loving, forgiving, kind mother, friend, sister, daughter….wife! The word that keeps ringing in my ear that can possibly withstand all of this is OBEDIENCE.
“We must desire to have long obedience in the same direction.” Eugene Peterson.
I love this passage from Deuteronomy 11:22 MSG “If you diligently keep all this commandment that I command you to OBEY—love God, your God, do what he tells you, stick close to him—God on his part will drive out all these nations that stand in your way. Yes, he’ll drive out nations much bigger and stronger than you. Every square inch on which you place your foot will be yours….No one will be able to stand in your way. Everywhere you go, God-sent fear and trembling will precede you, just as he promised.”
My prayer for 2016 is that I may obediently walk firmly in my Faith, in my walk with God, in my prayer life. That I may be obedient in all of my goals for the year ahead, trusting that this obedience, even through times of struggle, will be worth it. I know that walking in obedience to my God will protect my family and will make us stronger each day!
Will you walk in obedience with me?
